Create a Small Business Website in 5 Basic Steps

Having a website is essential, especially in these times. If you own a small business, you should consider investing in a website. It is the physical online space for your business. The first thing I search for when looking for a service is whether or not they have a website. I’d like to know whether the business I’m going to is legitimate and find out more about them. This article should help guide and teach you how to create a great website for your small business.

For a Blog Website : How to Start a Blog + Useful Resources & Tools

01. First Things First, Hosting!

You need somewhere to host your website. Hostinger (my hosting provider) offers a variety of plans, ranging from shared to premium or business. The plans usually depend on the size of your business. When searching for a hosting provider, look for the following:

  • Consider the type of website you are creating. Are you expecting a high volume of traffic to your website? How much storage and bandwidth is available? How many domains can be hosted on one account? Do they offer free SSL?
  • Do they perform backups? How often do they perform backups? While working on my website, I accidentally reset the WordPress to SBCS. I was able to restore everything to its original state thanks to the backups provided by my hosting company.
  • It’s important to have the ability to upgrade your plan with a single click. That way, you can start with a low-cost plan and upgrade as your company grows.
  • Check their speed and uptime. You don’t want a website that is slow and has servers down all the time.
  • Look at the promotions going on, and the renewal prices. How much is it going to cost to renew everything?
  • How many email accounts are supported, and how much storage is available for each account?
  • Check for reviews on Google and Youtube. What do the experts recommend?

Some Good Hosting Providers :

02. Picking a Domain Name

Check with your hosting provider to see if the domain you want is available. Try to choose an exact domain name for your business (no unrelated numbers or letters) You don’t want to confuse your customers.

03. Install WordPress, Pick a Website Builder & Purchase WordPress Template

Installing WordPress should be a simple process with your hosting provider. There are plenty of website builders like Divi and Elementor. My personal favorite is the Elementor Pro Plugin, it makes building a website so much easier.

WordPress Website Builders :

Divi

Beaver Builder

Once you have a website builder, you can either design your website from scratch or you can purchase a wordpress template and do it yourself. 04. What to Look for When Designing your Website

  1. The most important part is defining who your target audience is. This will help in creating a functional website for your customers. It’s also a good idea to write down your website’s objectives and goals.
  2.  Examine your competitors’ websites and take notes on what they’re doing that’s working well for them. Perhaps you can implement one of their strategies on your website.
  3. When deciding on a color scheme for your website, try to choose colors that are easy on the eyes. The same goes for fonts and font sizes.
  4. Maintain brand consistency throughout the design of your website.
  5. The navigation should be easy to find and read.
  6. Having a lot of open white space is actually good! Make the most of it!
  7. Use high-quality images, videos, and graphics.
  8. Your website’s content is its foundation. Not only does your content influence your search engine ranking, but it is also the primary reason most users come to your site in the first place.
  9. Your website should be responsive. You can easily create a responsive website with Elementor.
  10. Make sure you have no broken links, and everything is working smoothly before you go live.

05. Search Engine Optimization

SEO is the process of optimizing a website to rank higher in search engine results. So How can you improve your website’s SEO?

  1. Publish high-quality content. Content is the most important part of your website.
  2. Optimize heading tags, URL structure, and alt tags
  3. Use Keywords in your Titles and Meta Data Description. Don’t go overboard with keywords-use only the relevant ones.
  4. Use Google Analytics, SemRush, and register your website with Google Search Console
  5. Check your website’s site speed, as it is important for SEO.
  6. Regularly update your content.

Hope this is of use to you! If you have anything to add please leave me a comment 🙂
